WE'VE MOVED! OUR NEW WEBSITE IS www.techiejunk.com My name is Daniel, I'm 13 and I love technology. I also enjoy reading about Tech., playing sports, and operating scoreboards! When I grow up I hope to work as an IT professional and help people with computers. It would be fun to meet Steve Jobs some day too. (I am more of an Apple guy)

Top three tips for using a computer!

  1. Use a Firewall! If you are going to go into the internet you will need a firewall. If you are running on Windows XP, it comes with a built in firewall so be sure to turn that on. Although I don’t like the Windows Firewall for three reasons: it doesn’t check out bound traffic, it is possible that a Trojan on your PC could transmit data to a remote user without you knowing, most commercial firewalls can stop outbound traffic from untrusted programs. Most programs implement this feature by detecting each attempt to access the internet, usually by asking you if it should have permission.
  2. Keep Anti-Virus software definitions current! New viruses get created every day and you won’t be able to stop them without the latest protection.
  3. Set Limits! When shopping for a computer, don’t think of the cost of the computer because computers these days let you have a good system for $500. Don’t forget to include the monitor, keyboard, software, virus protection, printers and more! Be responsible and don’t let money slip through your fingers!
